Italy, May 05: The Tibetan Writers Abroad PEN Centre sent Ven Lobsang Darjy to the Conference "Chair of Human Rights of the Writers" organized jointly by the Italian PEN Centre and Ateneo Veneto in Venice, Italy, on May 3, 2005 (Freedom Press Day). The conference was attended by 120 delegates including prominent personalities such as the President of the UNESCO, Mr.Jovanvipuglis, and the President of International PEN, Mr. Jirigruas. The conference was packed with panel discussions, debates and meetings regarding freedom of speech and rights of writers around the world. Ven. Lobsang Dhargyal, the representative of the Tibetan Writers Abroad PEN Centre also participated fully in those debates and was able to share the plight of his fellow Tibetan writers in prison. He particularly stressed on the conditions of the imprisoned or house arrested writers like Tashi Gyaltsen, Jampel Gyatso, Tsultrim Phelgay, Toesam Zangden and Woser. Ven. Lobsang Dargye explained the truth about freedom and rights denuded from Tibetan writers by Chinese authority in Tibet, and those imprisoned Tibetan Writers in Tibet for expressing their thoughts and their suffering since 1950s.. Furthermore, he stressed that even today, many Tibetan Writers come into exile by risking their lives while crossing the hazardous Himalayan mountains because there is no guarantee for safety in Tibet and they do not want to suffer like others in prisons. Delegates from different countries paid great attention toward the issue of Tibet by expressing their concern and supported the cause of Tibetan Writers in Tibet. |
